Radio Free Europe in New York, (1946-) 1952 - 1974 (-1989)
Radio Free Europe (RFE) - "the Polish Desk" in New York was founded in 1952 as a part of the Polish Section of RFE in Munich (Germany). "The Polish Desk" of RFE in New York was closed in 1974.
Arrangement in Series: Head Office - Reports; Polish Research Section - Information Department; Polish Research Section - Translation Department.
The collection contains official annual and quarterly reports sent from RFE Headquarters in Munich (1971-1976). The series of " The Polish Research Section - Information Department" contains information - press clippings and reports on the interior situation in Poland and the Soviet Union (1945-1964), research materials on the legal system in Poland (1951-1954). There are also scripts of radio speeches from "the Polish Desk" (1952- 1956) for "Glos Wolnej Polski". The series of " The Polish Research Section - Translation Department" contains translations of scripts and research materials (from Polish to English) for other sections of RFE. The collection contains also ca. 200 unprocessed tapes with sound recordings (1956-1989).
