Polish archival holdings: Karol Rathaus Archives. Karol Rathaus (1895-1954) was of Polish-born composer, who emigrated to the U.S. and after a brief career as a Hollywood film composer, became professor of composition and chairman of the music department at Queens College. The collection consists of personal correspondence of Karol Rathaus with private persons and other composers, articles and lectures on the compositions of Mozart and Bartok and theory of music. There are also biographical materials, film music materials, music manuscripts and sketches, sound recordings and newspaper clippings.

The Music Library is located on two levels in the Aaron Copland
School of Music building. The Archives are open from 10 a.m.
to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and can be visited by appointment.
You may also find the correspondence of the composer in the Arnold Schoenberg Institute in California, and in the Music Library of Yale University in New Haven, CT.
