The Library was established in 1817.
Archival holdings: historical record of the University.
Also in the archival holdings are collections of
Towarzystwo Naukowe w Warszawie and Evangelical Reformed
Church in Warsaw from XVI to
XX century. There are medieval Polish codexes, charters
and copybooks of charters of Kings of
Poland, archives of King Stanislaw August Poniatowski, monasteries
records, charters of dukes of
Mazovia and also many private, family collections. Archival
materials from the period of the World
War II - archives of Polish underground Home Guard - Armia
Krajowa. Large carthographic
collection from XVI to XX century (ca. 10 000 maps).
