The Polish Institute of Arts and Sciences is not only an institution but also a corporation, or if you prefer, a society of scholars and adepts of scholarship in the broadest sense of the word. Our activity is essentially that of collective nature which manifests itself in annual meetings of PIASA. These serve as a forum of exchange of ideas and strengthen the ties between members. It is essential, however, that the periods between the meetings testify to our sustained scholarly activities within the framework of PIASA. The contributions of the members can best be expressed through publications especially in The Polish Review. The high standard of the latter is and should remain the object of our special concern. Hence, the contributions in the form of articles and reviews should occupy an important place in our activities. It is obvious that with the best will on the part of the editor and the editorial committee and staff, the level of publications depends in the final analysis on the contributors.
I appeal therefore to you to demonstrate your full commitment to PIASA by sending in articles and book reviews about the best scholarly productions in your field. It is essential that the most important books in the diverse fields - history, social sciences, literature, etc. - which should be known to our community be brought to the attention of the readers of The Polish Review. Similarly, while writing what you consider your most important articles, please keep in mind their publication in our periodical, so as to maintain and strengthen its high standard. I think that this is one of the most valuable contributions which the distinguished members of PIASA can make between the annual meetings.
With best wishes and regards.
