DR. FRANK WILCZEK, NOBEL PRIZE LAUREATE VISITS PIASA

Dr. Frank Wilczek, one of the world's most eminent theoretical physicists, visited the Polish Institute headquarters in New York City on June 12 with his wife Betsy Devine. Dr. Wilczek is the Herman Feshbach Professor of Physics at Massachusetts Institute of Technology who won the 2004 Nobel Prize in Physics. During the 63 rd Annual Meeting of the Polish Institute of Arts & Sciences of America (PIASA) that was held on June 3, 2005 at the University of Pittsburgh, Dr. Wilczek was elected a PIASA Fellow by the general assembly. This is the highest honor that can be bestowed on Polish Institute members. Other PIASA Fellows included Nobel Prize winners Czeslaw Milosz, Isaac Bashevis Singer, Andrew Schally and Roald Hoffmann.

Dr. Wilczek's visit to the Polish Institute provided an opportunity for Dr. Thaddeus V. Gromada, Executive Director of PIASA, to present him with a diploma certifying his election as PIASA Fellow. After the presentation of the diploma, a reception followed with several members of PIASA's Board and Council and invited guests in attendance.

Dr. Wilczek and his wife toured the five story townhouse that included the library, archives and gallery. The next day Dr. Wilczek was honored by the Natural History Museum and the New York Academy of Science. (see pictures)
