The Polish Institute of Arts and Sciences of America (PIASA) is 501 c (3) tax exempt not for profit educational organization supported exclusively by its members, friends and the public.Founded in 1942, it has become the leading center of learning and source of information about Poland's history and culture in the United States. It is also a research center and a disseminator of knowledge about the Polish-American ethnic group and its role in America. The Institute's mission is to objectively inform the American society about Poland and its millennial cultural heritage. The Institute encourages intellectual and cultural cooperation between the United States and Poland, two nations whose friendship dates back to the Revolutionary War. Knowledge about Poland is of great importance to Americans because it helps them gain a more complete and more sophisticated understanding of Europe and Western Civilization. The people of Poland, who live in a pivotal geopolitical area in Eastern Europe, have played and continue to play a unique creative role in generating ideas and experimental solutions for dealing with many problems of today's world. |
